Default Why does my pinion have play ???

when moving front driveshaft side to side you can see the pinion moving with it, also vibrates when going above 60-70km/h.. wondering if anyone can help with steps? Also what tools are needed? Would like to do at home To save money.

Clearly the pinion bearings are shot and that more than likely has damaged the actual gears. Properly setting up a ring & pinion is not a DIY job for a first timer. The very fact that you are asking this question indicates you are not qualified. This is one of those jobs where a person has to be smart enough to know what they don't know and take it to a shop that is equipped to do the job.

What do you mean you can see the pinion moving? You can't see the pinion it's inside the differential.

What do you mean "side to side"?
Moving the entire shaft horizontally? And the yoke on the differential is moving with it? If that's the case, yeah you have problems.

If you mean you're twisting the shaft back and fourth it's normal for the shaft to move a little. Keyword a little.

Just want to make sure you don't start running down the wrong path chasing the vibration.

I did it, but I'm also me, and if movement in the pinion isn't enough to spell out bearing issue, then I totally agree!
