Default About to set pinion preload but pinion still has play?

I am redoing the bearings in my chrysler 8.25 and I've gotten it down to setting the preload on the pinion. When I tighten the nut down all the way before torquing it down there is still play in the pinion. I got it to 150 ft lbs and there is still play. Will it take all the way to 200-210 ft lbs before the pinion even gets tight? I dont want to start crushing the sleeve if its supposed to be tight from the get-go.

You tighten the nut while holding the yoke/companion flange until you get about 6 in/lbs force to start rotation of the pinion gear. There is no torque specification for the pinion nut. Crush sleeve sets the pinion depth btw.

Well I thought you were supposed to start off by getting the pinion torque to 200ft lb then start testing the preload. I got all the stuff to hold it still, its just the first time Ive done it alone and want to be sure that a little bit of play is ok before I start torquing on the crush sleeve
