I like this setup. A few questions, are the pieces glued together? (like the 2 elbows coming off the intake). How did you connect the CCV hose to 8705? And last, instead of the 5" diameter filter housing, could the smaller 9833 be used or would that be too restrictive? Thanks
So to get into the cowl... Could I use something like this?
I guess I'd just need a 45 degree bend coming off of that to get it back to level since the cowl is angled back right? Am I overthinking this?

The pieces are held together by collars tightened with an allen screw. They have rubber seals that help make the connection airtight. No glue.
8705 has orifices that Spectre provides fittings for to suit your application. I think 8705 has two of them- I used the provided plug to just block off the unnecessary one.
You're correct- the 5" filter housing in the picture will be sandwiched between your hood and valve cover (vibrations/noise). Spectre's intake kit actually uses the smaller filter cone in the 9833 housing, so it would, in theory, not be too restrictive for a NA, stock 4.0L. Strokers or engines with larger exhaust may benefit from the larger filter. Since that picture was taken, I have gone with the smaller filter and haven't noticed performance loss.
I chose to route the intake up and out of the cowl with another 90° fitting. This significantly reduced the noise in the cabin and to this day I haven't had issues with water getting in.
The only drawback to this setup is that its slightly more difficult to change/clean the filter than the stock filter.

AdamK and I emailed spectre last summer and got a response from a K&N Engineer.
They were purchased by K&N and will no longer be supporting the 4.0L Cowl Intake
Your best bet at this point is to home fab while they still have stock on the parts themselves.
