Went to pull my old and slightly bent rear bumper off today in favor of a JCR Offroad replacement. Was planning to ditch the installed hitch since there's a receiver in the bumper and I'm not expecting to tow anything regularly.
I'd assumed the hitch was stock, but none of the threads I found mentioned that extra L section about the receiver tube. It was bolted into the crossmember and welded to the back of the receiver tube. There was no way I was getting anything useful into the three torx nuts that held it in without pulling the gas tank, so I drilled and cut it out. Turned out to be made of aluminum. Just curious if this was a factory option or something aftermarket.
My 91 has that same L bracket can't remember it being aluminum though. Dana 35, haha.
The vertical bit seemed to be aluminum to be fair, not sure about the tucked 'L'. I started cutting into the vertical out of frustration and when I found out it was soft and shiny went after it...
I have not saw that before, wonder if came from an aftermarket company/installer that did them all that way. Did they use all the nut strip holes also to mount it?
In my 89 the so-called towing package was to add the Track-Loc to the dana-35. I was hoping for a D44 too but from my vast junk yard searching you'll never find one in anything except an 87.

Huh. So perhaps my 35 has an LSD in it? That would be a positive. Any way to confirm or deny that without opening it up?

Get the build sheet. With the VIN and some Chrysler website it will tell you everything that was included. I don't remember but there might be a thread here about it. This might be it.
