No, I understand that. And I have the skills. But to have spare doors would get expensive. Tube doors, no problem although the price of steel is going through the roof. What I meant is that I would sort of have a deep half door with a rag upper that was removable. I need to talk to the top people to see what my limitations are on that.
Man your doors are amazing. Are latches intact, did you do anything special to make them work.
Only on the fronts. I wasn't lucky enough to get doors from the same year, but I got them for free (thanks cruiser54) so I wasn't sure if anything had changed from early 90s models to late 90s models. Also, the hinges were missing. But since I got them for nothing, figured I'd find a way to make them work.
The hinges weren't that difficult to get, as I just needed to go to pick n pull, but from doing the drop in doors mod, I already knew that the hinge design changed at some point, so just had to find the same style MY Jeep had, so no big.
What I wasn't sure of was the latches and strikers. Once I sourced the hinges, and modified them to do the drop in like my full doors, I was able to get them on and check the lineup on the latch/striker...the design definitely changed between years. Not sure exactly when, never did figure out the year switch, or even what exactly changed, but comparing to my full doors I saw the latch assembly on the door side was slightly higher on the older model doors. However, the distance it was off put the latch opening right where the top mounting bolt was on the striker plate.
I also found out that 2 types of strikers were used throughout the years, my existing strikers are the a "U" post style, but discovered they also used a straight post style, I'll attach a couple of pictures to show the difference...
So my brain decided to have what alcoholics refer to as a moment of clarity, haha...so I made new strikers plates for the fronts. Had them laser cut at the fab shop I worked for at the time, then TIG welded a small section of tube where the top mounting hole was. So, when I do put the half doors on, I have to change out the front strikers with the modified plate...but it's not too terrible. The back doors lined up, and I didn't have to change anything there. All the latches work, and the original door handles on the outside work, the inside you just grab the linkage rod and pull to open.
A couple pictures of the strikers. First one is the style I have, the others are the ones I made.

Well, I have big plans. Was very lucky to score doors for $50. I want to be able to close them up and use them for regular doors. I am going to take them to a top shop locally and see about making slip on fabric that would seal lup like a good top. I have some ideas, but I am not a top expert even though I have owned a few. At night in the Sierras you can go from hot to freezing in the low spots, particularly if there is any water there. Wife also doesn't like wind, so I need to be versatile particularly if I drive on a long trip to wheel or camp

Some snap in canvas would be cool. Nights are getting cool here getting close to running into freezing temps at night
The good news is that I got the donor doors. I found rare two door skins, plus two fenders and a tailgate for $100 But I haven't started cutting yet. I still have to consult a boat top manufacturer on a decent removable half door design that doesn't turn into a pair of wings at freeway speeds
But looking good. Nice job. I have had welder woes lately and need to make some repairs in the MIG guns
