ive been running 31's on my 5.5" long arm kit to get better gas mileage and stay road legal. and no it doesnt look stupid i just kept the stock 99 flares and bumper end caps on and painted the stock rims matte black. I have aw4 with 3:55's and I get 16-18 normally and the best I got was a couple weeks ago on a ski trip went 55ish the whole way and the wind was in my favor it calculated to almost 20mpg(19.7) but like I said 16-18 is normal and that's when Im driving to get mpg's. 35's with 3:07's or anything for that much wont get more than 17 lmao. and you should stick with 31's

I'd say stick with 31s. Visually, 32s almost look the same and at least where I am at, 32s are kind of an oddball size and cost a bit more than 31s. Inch difference is really nothing. You will be bogging so bad with 33s and you might as well open up your gas tank and let it spill out. I am actually in the same boat. I would love to run 33s but I am thinking it's not going to be worth all the trouble.

I'm running 30's and getting about similar stock in regular driving and don't see much of a difference with the exception of highway driving. I'm running High country a/ts made by falken and they do make 31s. Wouldn't recomened anything larger without trimming. Unless thats what you want. My advice though if you want mpgs lifting stick to stock for best, but for best with a lift stick to 30-31s.

As for the 20 mpg comment, doubtful, unless hes not telling the entire story. Personally I really don't care what mine gets, I just drive and fill up when I need too.

Just wanted to chime in. I dont understand how anyone could get 20mpg out of an XJ. I dont care what setup, 31s 33s 35s , what gears. That cannot be possible. I am not sure what I am getting anymore, I stopped checking a while ago, but I know its not even close to 20. I have 33s and 3.55s and a 5in lift. (and yes I know I need to regear, leave me alone). Maybe people are not calculating for gearing changes vs tire size etc, but rather just go off what the odometer says. I mean 20 is better than a stock cherokee would do and we have people here claiming that they get that with 33s. The weight of the tire alone will kill your mpg, and thats before you take the size into consideration. My opinion, please dont scream at me.

I think most people don't correct there speedo and think its better then it really is. when I re-geared and hadn't fixed the speedo It said I was getting 23mpg.... fixed the speedo and it was corrected to 16 lol then went to 35's, fixed it and now get 14.x

When my jeep was stock and going up the highway my dad said it got 22 at the highest. Of course that was being a conservative driver. That suprised considering its a freakin box! But believable stock with 225s.
