like it was established. it is a Dana 35 out of an XJ. take the drums off and see what size they are. i dont know the year differences, but you should be able to find on the internet what year range the axle is.

You'll need to take the drums to get them turned anyway so you can compare parts at the store.

The only difference in the axles are the way they mounted in the XJ and MJ and the size of the brake drum.

So??? The axle might be in a MJ, but was out of a XJ...I don't understand the point of your post.

If you're on a budget as you've said, it'd be cheaper to just get them turned.

In my experience with turning rotors and drums it's not worth it, 6 months later Im going to have another warped drum that's been turned as much as it can and are going to need new ones, the cost difference is 20 dollars, it's a lot easier to squeeze a extra 20 dollars tor 2 out of the budget than a hundred or two for the axel swap. When I do swap the axle I'm going to go with what I want and just do a 8.8. Yea I might have to get a new drive shaft but I wanna do a sye anyway so that will give me the excuse to do it. That way I can get rid of this custom lengthened one.
