what metal to use Redoing Floors
I have a bunch of stainless steel sitting around and I was going to use this to do my floors.... will the herculiner stick to this and will it weld nicely to the existing floors or should i just get some regular steel

stainless would be great, as long as you're going with rivets and construction adhesive (liquid nails) and for the Herc liner, take a stiff wire brush to it randomly so the herc can grab onto the little scratches...
also should be no less than 18ga thick, or you'll need bracing

2 other metals touching, one will effect the other.. after time the s/s will rust.
I done a little S/S work, manly welding.. we never welded mild steel to s/s.

Welding it will be fine. Just keep the heat down to avoid burning the nickel out of the stainless and it shouldn't rust at the seam.

The cleaner the better prior to weld.
What gauge and type is your stainless??? 300 series SS is most popular. If you have 400 series, probable not best for your floors application when welding.
I'd use a 308 or preferred 309 wire for the weld, stainless to carbon steel. Argon gas or argon mix for your mig welder.
If you go all carbon steel, 16 ga will give you good floors and is still decent for working into shapes/angles.
