I want to install fog lights on my XJ, I have the tab cut out of the air dam for them, i was just wondering what lamps everyone was using. factory ones would be nice, but they are not cheap. and lets face it, once you have driven with fog lights, its hard to drive a car without them, they are so nice!!!!

Currently I got cheap Walmart "burners". They are about $20 a pair. No idea how good they are, just put them on earlier today. I had what I believe to be OEM fog lights, made by Bosch. But one died on me.

Pro Comp 5" mounted on front bumper. $19.99 each and they come with plastic covers. Not the best, but they do what I need, and also aren't $200 a pair Hellas or one of the other over-priced brands.

I have some custom small round lights coming that will mount on my roof rack. They use Cree XM-L T6 LED's and put out 1200 lumens each! That will be some nice output with very little power draw!

I hear harbor freight has some good rectangular ones for ~15$ a pair. Pretty damn bright as well. Maybe they aren't fogs though....

They come in a couple different styles, I just picked up a few for use on my roof rack for my 360 degree light project. Unfortunately they only really offer about 10* of down aiming and 40* up. Gonna be hard to point them 10-15 ft, but that's just for me.

I hooked them up to my battery and they are nowhere near my day brighter but they are plenty bright.

I have a pair of Harbor Freight 55w 6" round @ $10 ea. on right now. A stone has cracked the lens of one. I have on order, what looks to be the same housing, 100w 6" round lights from Walmart @ $15 ea. I ordered them on-line. I didn't find them in stock at any store. Rugged Ridge look like they may be the same and I have ordered plastic covers for those to protect the Walmart lamps.
These are driving lights. Not spot or fog lamps.

I got the KC Hilite 6" apollo kit http://www.quadratec.com/products/97048_3512.htm

the kit is awesome so far. Came with wiring to have them come on with low beams and off with the high. relay and fues included. You dont have to run them to go on and off with lows but it was required for inspection in va

The same lights are available in FOG LIGHTS....I was just specific in my description. At least I contributed to the thread.

That said, probably not ideal for use in stock location. You'll want to stick to something small and rectangular. The larger ones could easily be mounted to the top of your bumper.

No you didn't contribute anything that helps the OP at all. He asked about a specific type of light, you posted pics of a rig with long range lights.

The OP specifically mentioned the cut-outs in the air dam, you posted pics of the wrong kind of lights in the wrong location.

So tell us again how you contributed.

To the OP,
Be leery of low-end lights that won't hold up to the elements. Auxiliary lights are investment in your safety, if you are truly using them in a foggy/snowy environment.

If you're adding lights for appearance sake, by all means buy cheap Wally-World, or Harbor Freight disposable lights.

Better options include but are not limited to the following:
KC 26 Series (2x6)

KC 35 Series (3x5)

Rugged Ridge 100W Lights

Rigid SRM Wide

^SeriousOffroad, would you recommend LEDs for fog lights? Or are they for a different use?

Sorry not trying to steal the thread but get a clarification.

All I'm saying is I contributed a bit more than someone coming in out of no where and jumping on someone. The term "fog lights" is commonly used open ended by most to describe other auxiliary lighting.

No hurt in trying to show a guy other options, Others mentioned the use of 6" lamps and you had nothing to say to them even though they would not be ideal for that mounting location.

That said I'm done arguing in this guy's thread over something so trivial with a vendor I respected.

Pattern is more important than the actual light source.

That being said, LED's generate copious amounts of useable light at a fraction of the amp draw compared to standard lights.

A wide pattern LED mounted in the correct location can rival many dedicated Fog Lights.
