Welding a LSD. Will it work?
Well guys I my current set up is a Dana 30 up front and 8.25 in rear. With 3.07 gear.
I am pickin up 2 axels tomoro
Dana 30 with 4.10s
And a Dana 35 with LSD and 4.10s
I know the 35 is not as good as the 8.25. But my question. Is I have a welded 8.25 and love it. Can I weld the Dana 35 with a LSD ? I would much rather be welded than a lsd. I few people said No you can't weld a LSD only a open carrier ???????

i dont see the benifit of a fully locked dana 35 with 4.10's. you will snap that thing so fast as 90% of the time you lock a dana 35 it breaks the first sign of stress

You're downgrading from a decent axle to a crap axle for little bit of gearing.
Is that small gearing change worth time, money and effort to keep fixing that Junk axle?
And no, I wouldn't weld an LSD. I'm sure if you gob enough wire in there it'll hold for alittle while but I'd never do it.

you could weld up the spiders and it would hold fine.
but, you are talking about welding up a d35. and it wont take much to break it. simply making a u turn could be enough stress to snap a welded 35
if you mainly play in sand/mud....then the LS d35 should work fine, and still retain nice driveability on the street. not to mention it will probably last longer as an LSD than a welded diff

Mabe I will just stick with my 8.25 welded. It's not bad. I was just going to change it for a little gearing
Bottom line I I need a new Dana 30 up front. It's rotted to hell and had 3.07 gears. I was going to buy a used Dana 30 and d35 with 4.10s but I don't want to break the d35.
Willl my 3.07 gears fit in the other Dana 30? How hard is it to change? Do I need to change all the bearings as well?

It's doable but it takes quite a few special tools, a LOT of researching and patience.
I've set up a good many.
Plus, I can go ahead and tell you that somone is about to tell you to just take the carrier and pinion out of the housing you ahve now and slap it and the same shims back in the new housing... Please don't do that.
That's a good way to fry a pinion bearing and cut a front flip on the free way.

why not try and find some 4.10 gears for the 8.25? its an easier axle to regear and setup than the D30.

There will be a difference but I don't think it'd be worth it.
One of my Jeep has 31s and 3.55s auto and it's managable. Seems like 31s and 3.07s manual would be managable as well.
If it's not a dog going up a hill I wouldn't worry about it.

No not at all plenty of power just I'm worried that if the rear is welded ad front ( awaiting locker) that with all 4 locked it would be a dog.
Right now it has plenty of power and I can blow te tires off all the time
