Obviously all this in 2wd. You know it's locked once you're in 4wd because it only wants to go straight. I honestly don't think lockout hubs are worth the cost for a D30.
Mine isn't that hard to turn even when I am in 4x4 it turns much better than a locked selectable or a spool in the front does.

I did look at my Bronco knuckles to see if they could be swapped out to the XJ though. Doesn't look like it can be done, they are on top on one and under on the other.
I wonder if YJ knuckles could be swapped over? But by the time you buy all of that, might as well just do a complete axle swap.

I know that running a locker or spool in the front will cause bad street manners, but how about the rear? I've driven many vehicles with lockers in the rear, but none that were spooled or welded. Will it cause me any grief other than the obvious tire dragging around the corners?
spinning...not dragging

outside tire will have traction, inside tire will rotate the same amount, so it will slip/spin

I have one in the rear of my truck now and its awesome but a lunchbox locker like a spartan works the same way. The Detroit is stronger but many people run 33s and 35s on the 8.25 with a lunchbox locker with no problems.

And the detroit requires gear setup...the other don't...........

If yer doing gears anyway, not a big deal, if not, it can be
