Weld diff
Ok so I've been doing a lot of research and I see a lot of do and don't do it, so I am just wondering what people have to say about a weld diff on a 8.25. My main question is a ricer can weld the diff and go drifting and it be ok how long will it really last on my Jeep, I'm on a tight budget and I drive my Jeep to and from the trails and to and from work in the winter should I do it ?

I have my 8.25 welded and have likes and dislikes. My dislikes are when you turn any corner the tires chirp and it gets annoying after awhile. That's my only dislike. My likes are I never worry if both tires are grabbing and it was cheap. I am planning on doing a 8.8 swap here next month though.

Well I'm not to worried about the tire chirp I was playing in the snow the other day and got stuck on a pretty big pile and my rear pass tire was on pavement, and I have access to a welder but not money for a locker and I have a DD good on gas car jeep is just DD in winter and to and from the trails

I wouldn't weld it unless you stick it on a trailer and if you were going to do I would consider the front maybe. I did on a rig of mine but it had manual hubs becuase I could always leave one unlocked until I needed. Not sure what the implications would be on an XJ. Someone much smarter than me might be able to comment on that.

I got a 2000 xj with a welded 8.25 that I drive daily and it's fine but like a few post before me you will get tire chirp and makes tight turns a bit more difficult , you just have to drive it right and not hammer outta corners and run your most evenly worn tires on the back or your tear that rear apart

Hey thanks guys, my friend has a lock right in the rear of his Cherokee and it still chirps tires around tight turns and it does not bother me just have to know your limits I guess
