I have a 87 xj and was wondering if it would b to much of a hassle to put a rustys 6.5 long arm kit on it.. im not sure bc of the transfer case it says slip yoke eliminator needed for np231 but i have a np207. im wonder wat needs to b done with the t case for this lift

Welcome to the forums!!!

For that big of a lift you will need a custom drive shaft made which runs $350 here in Nashville TN. I'm running the Rough Country 6.5" and all I did is the t-case drop SYE got a custom made drive shaft with CV and swapped out to a NP 231. Longer brake lines... If you are going to offroad it get steel braided. Make the sure the kit has everything!!! Sometimes they will leave something out and you don't notice until you start your build

Myself I would switch t-cases that's JMO... Custom drive shaft's are stronger and will fit just right. When you lift it after you install the lift set it on level ground and measure the middle of the yoke center to center from the t-case to the middle of the yoke on the input shaft on the rear diff and that's how long you tell the person making it. Tell them it's for 6.5" lift kit and they will make the shaft flex in and out more to compensate for the lift.

I personally like the 231 but other people might have other opinions on t-cases.

Good luck with the build and don't forget pics of your rig too we all like seeing people's new rigs.

welcome to CF! its all good advice above. measuring for a drive-line is a lot easier them you would think. here is a link how to measure for a SYE. if you don't do a flat flange style SYE then you measure from flat to flat of the yoke.
flat flange -http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com
yoke style- http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com

while installing most 321 SYE you need to remove the output shaft and disassemble most of the transfer case to do so. and install the new shaft. its not horribly complicated but if its your first time and a bit overwhelming you could remove the transfer case and have a recommended shop do the work.

Just remember when looking for T cases you get the right spline count. a 23 spline for an AUTO or I-6 truck. Just keep in mind there are 2 different length inputs for the 23 spline. If you have a 2.5 then you need a 21 Spline for a manual transmission.

The other thing you could do if you wanted to spend the $$ is order the Tera 4:1 low for the 231. It replaces the front half of your t-case so it doesn't matter what case you had to start with. This is what i did for my 84 2.5 with borg warner T-5 to replace the NP-207
