If you think you're going to buy them I would ask to pull the covers off and check for any abnormal wear, a large amount of backlash, and the condition of the fluid

You asked for advice and received quite a bit most of it to pass on this deal as your gaining nothing really and could have new parts in yours for about the same price.

I absolutely agree and I am fully ready to pass it up, but it can't hurt me to look. There are no buying guarantees, everything you all have told me will play into my decision. It comes down to the fact if I can't get them for cheap enough, I'm going to walk away.

I got them for 1800, 9 a piece. For fully built xj 44s, I don't feel too bad about it. Thanks everyone for the advice!

That's a decent price for built axles ready to bolt in. I probably would have paid around the same.

Don't know who's regearing your axles but you got ripped off. Most I've ever seen was a grand and included parts.

Yeah I'm not sure what I was thinking. Lack of sleep I guess.

I paid $600 for parts and got quotes from 700-1300 for install. I would love to know where you got yours done.

I've seen sales at 4WP for around that price but with your quote I guess I wasn't as confused as I thought I was.

OP nice you got steering also.

So the warn locking hubs were originally designed for old full time 4wd jeeps so they would handle better on the street. What's the benefit of them on an XJ?

You can have a fully locked diff all the time but it will act open until you lock the hubs

Guess I should of said open diff so nothing really unless you intend to lock it.

Thanks. The previous owner had mini spools installed, the locking hubs make it possible to drive on road like you said, since the axles is locked all the time otherwise. There's also a mini spool in the rear which needs to go if I'm going to be driving this on road lol
Up here in the northeast the price for a good axle regear/rebuild is 400 per roughly. Then parts, which all depend on the brand. I'm sure I COULD find both for a grand, but since a good axle rebuild kit cost about that much I doubt it.
