Usually I have luck searching posts, but I haven't seen anything around here. Anyway, there's this new trend on the XJ Facebook and Instagram pages about the Viper coil mod for 00-01 XJs. The premise is that it is to remove the ugly, giant coil with a setup that looks similar to a distro and plug wires.
Is it a 12 hole injector worthy upgrade or as useless as a throttle body spacer kind of upgrade?

I am in the process of doing the Viper Coil Mod myself.
Following 00xjfreedom's lead.
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/20...driver-251924/
Start around Post #11.
I purchased the harness and the bracket from Ksuspension.
https://www.ksuspensionfab.com/store...il_Mod_.html#/
I think he purchased the whole kit. Came with a Spectra coil and wires.
I talked to the guys there and the wires they use are from an '02ish Grand Caravan/Caravan.
I purchased a Mopar coil just like 00xjfreedom.
Now he made is own wires. I looked at the '02 Caravan wires and so that the boots were straight at the coil.
Figured 90 degree at the coil would route better. And that is how 00xjfreedom made his.
So this guy in another forum doing the mod:
https://www.cherokeetalk.com/threads...oil-mod.74549/
He bought these for wires.
https://www.quadratec.com/products/917245_11.htm
Said they laid out great. Noticing that they are for a Wrangler I looked up wires and found that any 4.0 in a '91 to '99
use the same wires. Hoping that is true I ordered these:

Cause I wanted 8 mm wires.
Hopefully they will work as intended.

Oddly enough I just did a coil, plugs and wires in a 02 Town and Country with the 3.8 and the coil looked oddly similar to the Viper Coil. I'm looking at this mod in terms of ease of maintenance compared to performance gains the more I read now.Originally Posted by Ralph77

Here is the thing about the coils. The one that 00xjfreedom and I bought is not a Viper coil.
I checked the part numbers. They are different.
Now if you look up the application for the Spectra coil, C 595, that comes with the Ksuspensions kit it is for all these.
CHRYSLER GRAND VOYAGER 2001-2002
CHRYSLER PACIFICA 2005-2008
CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY 2001-2010
CHRYSLER VOYAGER 2001-2008
DODGE CARAVAN 2001-2007
DODGE GRAND CARAVAN 2001-2010
DODGE RAM 1500 PICKUP 2004-2006
DODGE RAM 2500 PICKUP 1997-2003
DODGE RAM 3500 PICKUP 1997-2003
DODGE VIPER 1997-2006
JEEP WRANGLER 2007-2011
VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN 2009-2010
Thing is the Ram and Viper coil is not the same part number as the Mopar coil we bought.
Really only for the Jeeps and the mini vans.
IMO while the Spectra would work on a Viper or Ram Truck it is not a true Viper or Ram Truck coil.
And pretty sure when I looked up the part number for a real Mopar Viper coil that the Ram Trucks were
also listed in the application.
Newbie
I did the viper coil pack recently and it was a great mod. Makes getting the wires on and off spark plugs when changing them so much easier. As for the injectors, I'd imagine it could be good for fuel consumption but doubt it'll do anything performance wise.
I did the coil mod on my 01...stroked .I made a bracket to fit on the inside of the coolant overflow bottle attach frame, and spliced in an extension to the stock coil rail harness to reach the coolant bottle. I originally used a stock 2007-2011 jeep V6 coil pack but moved up to a Screamin Demon 45KV coil pack. Got their wire set too. Very happy with the results. Jeep starts on the first 1/4 crank every time..smokin hot or freezing out. Opened the plug gap to .055 to .060 . No issues at all. I think there is a lengthy writeup for coil rail eliminator on jeep strokers
