stores vac pressure for your 4x4 hubs to engage and dis-engage and i think the air dam for temperature control.

So without it there would be no 4x4?! I unplugged the hose that's connected to the ball and a small burst of air came out for like 5 seconds and it stopped. I plugged it back in once it was relocated. Does the pressure build back up once installed again? Will I feel any difference in 4wd?

That's only up through part of 1991 with an NP231. No worries on your part. Never had hubs anyway.....It stores vacuum for the heater/AC controls and cruise control if equipped.
Her's a photo of a relocation on a 1990 Comanche.

So the np242 doesn't need the vac ball? Also my cruise doesn't work but the 4x4 does meaning its not the vac ball right?

Yes on cruise vs 4X4. NP 242 uses a non-disconnect front axle. Want one for your Jeep? Do this:

I don't like your tone that all those periods imply, SIR. I'm still learning things, you know! Guess I'll be leaving mine alone then.
