Default V8 swap or strait 6 stroker

I want more power for my Xj . Im looking at two options a 5.2l v8 out of a 2000 ZJ or building a 5.0l stroker .. wondering if a v8 swap would be better then building a stroker. just trying to get some pros and cons before I make my final decision all help is appreciated

Between those two options...Build a stroker.

x2^ Go with the stroker! Alot more work and $$$ is going to go into trying to cram a V8 in there.

5.0 IMO is way to much... Try the 4.6, but what do you need all this power for? What will you be doing that requires it? Could proper gearing or a solid exhaust, imrpvoed header and CAI be enough?

I wouldn't swap that v8 in. I would actually make it worth while and swap a 5.3 or 6.0 Chevy motor in it

X2 and the 5.0 will cost way more, unless you plan on racing your jeep I'd go with the 4.6 like he said its cheaper and should give you whatever you need for extra power

you can build a 4.6, 4.7 or 4.9 stroker, all using your existing 4.0L block.

Done both, V8 is so far superior to the stroker in every way.

Currently have a 5.3L Vortec in my heep.

id build up a 4.6 or 4.7 stroker. way cheeper than trying to dealing with new computers and wire harnesses and mounts. plus a stroker is bolt in with no external mods nessasary to make it fit

It's funny to read the replies from those that haven't done both, no disrespect intended.

"Cheaper" and "Easier" are relative terms that get tossed around like a newborn at a Tupperware Party.

A properly machined and assembled stroker can cost a lot more than dropping a bone stock V-8 into an XJ. Sure there is some fab work involved, and wiring may seem daunting at times...but in all honesty it's not the horrendous nightmare some of you seem to think it is.

Yes you can slap together a budget stroker and gain a few ponies and a few FtLbs of torque, but us old guys have learned over the years that there simply is no replacement for displacement.

So if you aren't mechanically inclined (i.E. Don't know which end of the hammer to use) then neither option is a wise choice. If you've got a basic grasp of how a modern internal combustion engine works and the basics of your rigs electrical system then you are capable of doing either.

Nicely put Frank. I went with a 4.9 cause I had 90% of the parts laying around my farm. Its not a speed demon by any means but pulls n climbs like a tractor!

To build any solid jeep there's always going be some fab work
I'm trying to build Somthing that makes my Xj a universal wheeler but mainly crawl orientated and comp worthy
The stroker at 5.9 is gunna cost close to 3grand
And the v8. I can get for 500bucks with the trany and harness.
Just curriouse to any of you have done it how much frame stiffening is involved ?
And is there any fender choping to fit the v8 under the hood ?
