Default Using 95' external slave cylinder on my 90' master?

Hello all,

Ive been researching this for two days now and I am nowhere closer to understanding what is going on. I have a 1990 XJ with a 4.0 and an AX-15 with an internal slave cylinder. A month ago I put in a new clutch and slave cylinder but my slave cylinder just blew up so im staring down another clutch replacement just a month later, and now im trying to do the internal-to-external slave cylinder mod since I have to do it all anyway and am not fond of pulling the tranny.

I just bought a bellhousing from a 94 xj that is setup for the external cylinder. It comes with everything that goes inside the bellhousing, but no slave cylinder or lines. For my slave cylinder I was looking at a Duralast 10656 from Advance Auto because it looks very similar to the one pictured in Leans93's slave swap writeup. I was confused because the fitting on this slave cylinder is different from the standard threaded fitting thats on my current slave cylinder (I dont know what thats called but one end is flared and has a threaded coupler and the other end has threads). The new Duralast cylinder has a strange fitting that looks like a push in fitting, and someone else called out an advance adapters line kit that comes with fittings that should work. Part is 716130TJH from Advance Adapters.

The slave cylinder:

The line:

My main question is, does anyone have experience using this slave cylinder on their internal-to-external mods? How did you guys connect your stock, internal slave type, master cylinder to your new external slave cylinder?

I did the same conversion on my 1988, there is a fitting that will adapt the threads on the master to the threads on the line (can't find the part #). The other end should work in the slave, by removing the roll pin inserting the cable and reinstalling the roll pin.

Looked at all your parts and that is all you should need. Be very careful removing the old fitting from the master it will be very tight. I had to cut the fitting and use a socket as the line wrench would not break it free.

That sounds good. I was not familiar with the pin lock style fitting that the slave cylinders have, but I was trying to get a lock on what I needed to order. I ended up ordering the advance adapters kit, part number 716130TJH along with a LuK LSC309 slave cylinder, for anyone who sees this and is doing the swap. I replaced my master cylinder only a month ago so I am keeping that instead of getting a new one or a master/slave combo.

That's good if your master is new the fitting should come out easy. Everything else is plug and play.

Yep, it works fine. I used it on my 1988 with the original type master. Might be something else that will help you here:
