Default Clutch Slave Cylinder Again

Hey All,

For the third time in 5 years my Slave Cylinder is going out in my AX15. What the heck causes this?? Driving too much?? I do live in Los Angeles and driving is a must for me. I'm dreading dropping tranny again, but I have to man up one more time and get it done.

My question is, where can I get a dependable Slave Cylinder? I've had one from Napa Auto parts that lasted me about 2 years. Costed me about $200 or so. I Also see some at O'reilly Auto Parts for about $150. Which are better a brand to use?? Are there any with a life time warranty?? Help!!

The external slave cylinder will let you pull the slave out much faster. 15 min vs. 1hr+.

I would stick with Napa if your not going to the dealership. I had the same problem but it turned out to be that the line had a small crack in it so I would slowly push out fluid and allow air into the system that way. I would check that....I have one for sale if you want. Its not the same plastic one that comes stock but instead its a custom one made out of braided steel that I had a hydraulic shop make for me. I switched to external slave cylinder so I have left over parts.
If you want to switch to external slave cylinder then you have to drop your tranny and replaced the bell housing with an AX-15 external slave cylinder bell housing. You also have to take the black bracket inside. Its held in by a really small metal clip.

To answer your question about changing out the slave or doing the conversion to external. I would recommend getting another slave cylinder. I have one of those for sale too... What year is your Jeep?

SpunksterXJ,

Thanks for the reply and your offer. I have to get this done ASAP, as my XJ is my DD. It looks to be leaking from inside the bell housing. I'd like to swap to external but may have to go with Internal Slave since I can not wait. I will have to run to Napa and pick up another Slave. Cheers!

BTW, I just called JeepThrillz in Compton CA. They want $400 + for the complete set up. (External Slave, Bell Housing, forks, etc.) Talk about rip off. I may as well find a used tranny already set up. I just had my AX15 rebuilt in Oct. 2010 and not about to pour $500 in a used tranny. Internal Slave it is...

Get the slave cylinder with the lines already installed. Thats where they are prone to leak!

Yeah, I ain't going for that cheap stuff. Just made a trip to Napa, the part (with lines installed) cost me $174. Not too bad. Now to get down and get dirty.
