Cool, I do the same thing. Way back when, I was camping and the shift **** broke. While in camp I made a new shift **** (tee shaped) out of a stick. This Cherokee is my second standard Cherokee and I replaced the perfectly good **** with a comfortably shaped tee handle.
That's AWESOME! I'm glad I'm not the only one
Here's the one I made for my old VW. This was before I had a wood lathe so I used a chisel, a sawz-all, and a table sander.
Here's the one I did for the automatic, not my favorite but it was still cooler than stock
The one I have now is my favorite, nice and hefty since it's solid oak. And lots of use has polished it up so it's all shiny and pretty.
my conversion cost less than a new coil rail for one. Secondly, it is easier to change plugs. I also read a post were one individual had a lot of problems testing his rail for proper spark. Finally it's a unique MOD in my opinion. You do not have to like it.
Can you elaborate a little on that not sure I follow
This will help, it started with a Viper Coil (it uses 2, 1 for 6cyls and 1 for 4cyls), but you can use a caravan and other 6 cyl dodge coils. I used a caravan. http://www.jeepstrokers.com/forum/vi...hp?f=26&t=2756
You get a slightly more complicated ignition system with more parts to fail, and more cost. Plus you can say you have a Viper coil.
Not really
Now its out of the way, especially since I have a Spectre Air Cleaner that runs over the old coil rail
I can check spark easier, by just pulling a wire and plugging a spark plug in it.
The coils are a lot cheaper than the stupid ones that go on there now.
I no longer have to get to that stupid plug at the back of the old coil.
And its different... PS: I used a Caravan coil, I got the coil for free and snagged some decent wires at the junkyard for $6. There is an abundance of coils at the junkyard. (yes I am a cheap bastard)
I have had way too many jeeps with that stupid coil and it went bad, I was ready for a change.
Your coil rail replacement project is great, I like it. If my coil rail ever goes bad, I'll switch to coil and wires.
Here's another possible "Unique mods". I know that many Cherokee owners have the head liner droop issue. The backing board used on 2000 Cherokees is actually pretty good looking once you scrub all of the foam off of it. I like it anyway.
