Turning 4.5 into 6.5
Ok reaching out to my fellow jeep enthusiest. i have the RC 4.5X and im looking to either add coil spacers and shackles or front springs and shackles to get it close to 6.5. My question is which would be better for the front the 6.5 springs or coil spacers and why? Also when going to 6.5 is there anything else i will need to change? After checking out what all comes in a 6.5 lift i figure i will need a 3" pitman arm drop also.

Yea i figured i would probably need to change the trac bar length and possibly the upper and lower control arm lengths. Did you need to add the 3" drop pitman arm? On the trails you think 6.5 is to much? I ask this cause i have never really trail rode yet but when i put my cherokee into full flex the tires still rub the body a little bit and i dont want to trim anymore.

I have had the tereflex blocks in the front of mine for coming up on about 4 years and wheel it every weekend. I made my own lift shackles though, all I saw for sale seemed kind of thin. My buddy actually pick up some auto zone chep ones and they dont look to good but have held up. And those had like 3 holes to choose the lift amount you wanted.

Another thing to consider is that your xj will ride rougher with the extra lift, the remedy being long arms ($). You will likely need longer shocks and brake lines too. Your chances of vibes will increase dramatically. If you are just rubbing a little on the fenders I would recommend trimming them there are tons of threads on how to do it and make it look nice.

currently i am also running RC4.5" and also plan on going up to 6.5" with some RE 1.75" shackles+ added height of F8.8 swap should put me around 2" for the rear then i will run 2" spacers up front, to fix the control arm part of it i will be getting the RC long arm upgrade kit, then the obvious brake line and shock replacement.
Also i would suggest wheeling your jeep a little at its current height and getting a feel for it then decide what you want to do, this is a common problem people get 4x4s lift em beyond their handling abilities and then either end up downsizing or rolling cause they cant control their rigs once they do get into wheeling, 6.5" is a lot different from stock, or 4.5 for that matter.
