Hey ive tried all the cps stuff and kicking the gas tank but my truck still wont start i have a 99sport4l wen i try to start it it just cranks and wont start then i get out and all i smell is gas really bad can someone help me and gimme some ideas

Get in the jeep and turn the key to the on position right before it cranks and see if you hear the fuel pump priming. Your fuel pump is probably on its way out, You can turn the key on off on off a few times and then try to crank it. If the pump is starting to go that will probably start it.Fuel pumps on the 97+ xjs are notorious for going bad,

 

Ya the fuel pumpis wrking good everytome i try it i get out and smell gas like crazy and i can hear it kick on so i kno its not the pump

 

If you smell gas that badly then look for a leak rather than keep trying to start it. Fuel pump and pressure regulator are one unit. Check lines from fuel pump to the fuel rail, check the fail and all injectors.

 

Also, just because you hear the pump working doesn't mean the check valve isn't faulty. Meaning the fuel from the pump to the fuel rail empties back into the tank causing long cranking prior to start up.
