Default turbo or s/c cherokee. yes another thread on this

i have most everything to support the turbo or the supercharger, but was wondering which would be most advisable? i am leaning towards turbo, but i have no idea what size would be more convenient. i have a 16g from an evo3 and a borg warner that is .50 cold side and .82 in the hot side which i believe ir too big, and the 16g is too small. what size turbo would be best? and no. i am not interested in stroking my engine yet. i have the crankshaft and rods, but i dont feel like taking out an engine right now.

Depends on what you're doing. If you're racing, a turbo would be best if you can get a good one for good value.

If you're crawling where you need power instantly, a Supercharger would be best since they're belt driven, whereas turbo's have "lag" while they spool up.

I advise against going forced induction without upgrading the bottom end of the motor. I would say the best time for you to do the new crank and rods is now. And x2 with the comment about turbo lag. If you want immediate low end power, Supercharger is the way to go. But turbos generally have better top end once you get past the "lag". If you want to be revving very high for power, turbo is the way to go

also, put into consideration the location of the turbo and the fact that they get thousands of degrees when spooling. if cold water splashes up onto the HOT turbo you could be looking at a cracked turbo. perosnally, for an off-road application i'd go supercharger. low end power, top of the engine location, much much lower external, intake, and engine bay temps than turbo's.

Yeah, with mudding EFFINATLY go with a supercharger. It's more space effective anyways.

The 50trim T3/T4 I’ve installed on a stock 4.0L spools just off idle with full boost (7 psi) at around 3000 RPM. Even though power delivery is smooth I’d still go with a supercharger for mudding for all the reasons Meech93XJ said.

Definitely make sure you have an adequate fuel management system like a piggyback or standalone. God forbid you lean out and cause damage! Good luck! I'd love to see your before and after power numbers once you're done.

i have 2 cherokees. one 4x4 and one 4x2. the 4x2 had 111whp and 112wtq before the engine rebuild. bored .040 pistons, voodoo cam 262/268 and no new dyno numbers. i will build the stroker, just feel real lazy and dont want to pull the engine out. i have a complete spare engine and already have the crank and rods, just a matter of putting it together

How does the 2x4 sound with the new cam and bore? I love a nice heavy loping sound. Did you feel a power difference?
