Considering installing a small turbo on my 96xj just to get that awesome spooling sound and a little more hp. Anyone done this and how does it work for you? Thanks

A lot of money to spend just a spooling sound, by a turbo car if you need that noise.

search for Bryson on Naxja. he has done it and will have all your answers.

many have tried or talked about doing it, but very few have even come close to completing a setup.

a better option for wheelin' would be a m90 out of an old thunderbird SC... I would mount it near the steering pump and pipe it into the intake... then place the throttle body on the 'suction' side of the SC

maybe even pipe it through a intercooler

get yourself an adjustable base pressure, rising rate fuel pressure regulator, some upgraded injectors, a wide band 02, an MSD ignition controler box (maybe even go full mega squirt n' spark???) then add in a little common sense and you could be running with the stroker boys...

Wow yall are cool.....use search button.....

But anywho to help the op I to agree with above, about the supporting mods. Just a thought, why not look at a vortex supercharger or similar? Good hp gain, ezer and kits available. There is a guy at the strip here doing low 12's here at 6000 ft. in a xj with a vortex.

although i do like the M90, fabbing it in an XJ takes some work. and adding an intercooler to that style of supercharger is a challenge.

id like to see that build, it would need some serious work to be running low 12's at that elevation with just a supercharger.

and as far as i know, there is no "vortex" supercharger. maybe you mean vortech?

Wow, you open your mouth without knowing much, eh?

This has been covered many, many times. Most of the threads covering this turn into garbage. Search for yourself. Learn why the more knowledgeable and senior members here don't wanna put up with more of the BS.

not trying to be an ***, but if you have to ask you won't be able to do it right. a "custom" turbo setup takes a lot of work, a lot of money, and a lot of skill for tuning it and making it reliable... no cutting corners.... if you want to do it great. search and read, reread, take a brake. reread, let it sink in. research and spend the money once, turbo kits are only as strong as the weakest link and have a lot of fail points when done cheaply...

My advice, buy a put together supercharger kit, or stroke it.

if all you want is the noise then buy a ebay turbo exaust whistle... lol

Don't knock it till you try it.

To the Op, for all the money you will have to spend you would be better off buying a turbo charged car. They come with warranty's unlike a do it yourself turbo job.
