hey guys does anyonoe know the difference between the 84-96 tube doors and the 97-01 tube doors? just wondering what it is that makes the diiference? is it the size of the hinge holes or the length between the hinges for the latch between the hinges and the latch? anything would be great.

 

I think the door lack is different but not 100% sure.

 

I have a 90 and plan to install 97+ doors on it when i find a set w/ manual windows. I have read a few write ups on the mod. The hinge mounting points are the same on all 84-01 XJs. The difference is in the latch. The 97+ is a different style of latch mounted in a different location.

Next question. Why do you ask? What you got going on? Considering putting older style tube doors on your 97?

 

the striker is different. you cannot interchange them without modification.

 

Very little modification is required. The older version has one huge bolt holding the sticker to the door jam. The newer version has 2 bolts with a captive nut inside the b pillar.

I put '97 doors on my '89. All I needed to do was drill one hole. Wanna know the coolest thing about this?

Really thinking about purchasing these for my jeep. just don't know if they are compatible with all year cherokees.

 

If I had any reservations about going to the late model doors, they are gone now! Here I was going to bolt a bottle opener to the bumper.

 

Is it difficult to swap the striker from a pre 97 to an 01?

 

You still haven't answered my previous question. What are you trying to do? I don't believe you'll get a solid answer on swapping 96- striker into a 97+ because most people go the other way. Everyone wants the 97+ doors on the older models.

If you are attempting to use a 96- tube door on a 97+, I would suggest you cut the latch off the tube door, and weld a 97+ latch onto the tube door. Then you can swap between your full doors and the tube doors. If the latch bolts onto the tube doors, then perhaps you can redrill the tube door and mount a 97+ latch on it. Again, I recommend modifying the tube door to work with the vehicle so you can retain the option to use your full doors also.

 

the reason behind it is there are not many people making 97-01 tube doors and the only one I can find is warrior and they are outrageously expensive. Tomkens are half the price and for 84-96. I will go with your method and modify the tube door! Thanks!
