Hey guys ive got a 2wd 94, that im planning on converting over to 4wd. I found a muncie sm420 in my shed, of course im going to need an adaptor plate to use that. Ive also got a friend that has an np242 transfer case. Can anybody tell me if id be able to get the 2 to work together? If not what would be a good tcase to use? Ive also got an 86 xj in the back would i be able to use that transfer case? Not sure what model it is, or if they had different ones for that year.
i appreciate you patience, i am new to the cherokee scene.
thanks

With how cheap xjs are.. and especially in our area of CA.. You can get stock 4wd xjs from 300-1000.. This frankenstein 2wd to 4wd conversion seems like a ton of work.

You also need a 4wd transmisson unless you plan on changing the tail shaft or running a divorced tcase(good luck on having room for a divorced case though)
If you really want to do the work. Buy a donor jeep same year as yours. It is alot of time but not terribly hard and teaches you a alot about your cherokee. I did one this summer. My conversion ended up cheaper then buying a 4x4 cherokee but these things are spendy here.

i bought the jeep for 300 bucks, when i picked it up i realized i never clarified whether it was 2 or 4wd. So right then i decided to convert it. Like i said before i have an 86. So i have axles, but i was told the trans and tcase wouldnt work? I dont remember why. So now i guedd my question would be the cheaper/easier trans and tcase pair to look for.
