Transmission Problems
Bought a 99 Jeep Cherokee Sport from a friend. Showed no signs of transmission problems until about a week later. After driving all day, Fluid came out of dip stick tube and lost forward and reverse. Refilled tranny fluid and now drive and reverse might as well still be neutral. I can hear shifting happening but not engaging.
Things I have done so far.
checked linkage
drained fluid and changed filter. Fluid was definitely scorched.
attempted a flush but not getting any pressure out of coolant line. Checked line for clog and no clog found.
Should I just replace transmission or am I missing something? Please Help!

If your trans puked fluid due to overheating, it probably would have been over 250F ( at least mine didnt when it showed that on my trans temp gauge)
250F is apparently about the maximum temp that generally can be tolerated without damaging internal seals or clutches
I believe Reverse is manually selected, not electronic, so when I cooked my previous trans, and had no reverse, I changed it out (it never puked fluid either, but did get really hot, no gauge at that time)
In out hot climate that had all autos, no manuals, worn out trans is what has killed off most older XJ, trans runs too hot when ambient is high, and towing uphill
I got quoted between $3k to 4.5K to O/H and another 1500 to R & R
The auto trans specialist advised 200k miles is average lifespan of AW4 in hot climate
