Default Transmission issue?

Ok so heres what I have... I searched and looked but I find nothing that describes exactly whats going on with mine. about two months ago I was wheeling on my 30's and after I was done I did a once over of the pig before heading home. I noticed the smallest amount of fluid around the dust sheild oil pan area of the motor.. but it was only a drop. on the drive home at highway speed my heep began to smoke like a hippy then it stopped. pulled over and noticed more oil but it was no longer leaking. got home and (at first thought maybe rear main on engine) checked the motor oil and it was perfect. so two weeks ago I was driving and notice my **** was smoking again only this time I was playing with it on the highway. if I keep the jeep in 3rd or lower (higher rpms) it wont smoke and it doesn't **** out tranny fluid. But at the same speed if I allow it to kick up to 4th then all of a sudden its laying down a smoke screen. slow down to lower speeds and nothing.. hardly a drop. so I am now trying to figure out wtf the deal is with it only happening at highway speeds in 4th gear. the belly of my jeep is coated in tranny fluid now because of this (took a long road trip) I lost on the trip about 3 qts of tranny fluid just on the highway but while in town I didnt lose but maybe 3 drops. then on the ride back to nm (mostly down hill) I smoked about 1/3 to a 1/2 a quart of fluid. Any thoughts?

sounds like your torque converta has a crack. so when the when the converta goes into lock up it leaks. that why at lower speed it doesn`t leak that much. it`s the added pressur while in lock up that gets past the crack.

But then it would be dumping out fluid in the higher rpms right? It doesnt really leak or smoke when Im in a lower gear at a higher speed (example 65ish in 3rd) but at 65 in 4th it smokes its *** off?

no it`s the way the converta works in lock up . lock is different than all other gears

Ahh! I might attempt pulling it appart to get a clear look.. I absolutely loath oil drenched vehicles.. and now mine is working on creating a messy nightmare for me. So I must absolutely fix this leak!

True. Because all lockup is when the TC becomes a "solid" coupling between the engine and transmission.
