Transmission conversion?

Transmission conversion?
okay heres my dilema...my transmission (ax-15 5spd) has synchros going out on it. I was thinking first on just doing a straight swap, but now i heard about the NV 3500, and from what i hear it was an incredibly strong-geared and powerful transmission. so is it possible to do some sort of conversion to a 3500? I do not know too much about transmissions, so any help would be great!

im pretty sure that JP Magazine did this on a MJ once, i couldnt find it on there website, but ill have to look through some magazines to find it
