Transfer case noise
Hey everyone I looked on here but didn’t really find my exact issue. At lower speeds im starting to hear some noise inside the vehicle coming from transfer case , I would think it almost sounds like the chain is a little loose. I can use four-wheel-drive high and low and put it into neutral just fine without any noises excessive to what is already there. It’s not a grinding noise it’s more of a humming noise

It's pretty common for the chain to stretch and potentially drag along the bottom of the case. You might want to pull the transfer case out and take a look inside. There's plenty of write ups for replacing the chain and checking length etc...Also check your bearings, especially at the yokes and especially if you have any driveline vibrations.

We understand why this would be concerning. Be sure to send us a direct message if you're thinking you want the dealer to take a look. We'd be glad to help with this process.

I'd check the tcase oil for colour and quantity first.
Then pull the front driveshaft and see if the noise goes away. Then put it in 4wd without the front driveshaft and see if it comes back.

Thanks Guys I did change the tcase fluid today with dex3 and the noise is still there . The fluid that came out wasn’t to horrible. I’m starting to think it possible could be from the 3in lift but on my last xj the 3 in lift didn’t need and lowering. I know all Jeeps are different but just trying to get other opinions. I haven’t removed the front shaft yet , most likely that will be this weekend.

Pull the front driveshaft and drive it.
Check the double u joints at the rear of it. Probably never been greased.
