Transfer case clunk sound.
Hi All!
I have a 92 Cherokee xj with the 4.0 and auto OD trans, that I bought the a few months ago. It came with a pro Comp 3.5 lift. I replaced the worn out rear drive shaft ujoints. I am now starting to get a loud clunk when going from Park into gear, or from any gear into Park.
I crawled underneath to see that the drive shaft twists a bit and clunks from the transfer case rear output shaft section.
My question(s).
1) Is there a tail shaft repair/ upgrade kit available for this? I checked 4 wheel supply and only saw for wranglers.
2) The vehicle has 190K on it and I figure if i'm going to open up the case I may as well rebuild it. I was thinking of upgrading to a better chain.
What are my options, and what are the recomended vendors? Expected costs?
I would like to do the vehicle with longevity in mind, but dont want to drop major money into it. Its a daily driver that sees limited trail use, but does have a rear loc-rite.

i put a advanced adapters ''sye'' in mine (tail shaft urgrade) plus new ds with double cardon .
for the case(np231) my chain was all sacked out and hitting the housing so i upgraded and put a mid 90's chev s10 chain and gears in . the chain/gears are about a 1/4 inch wider then the xj, way more beeefy !!
all u gotta do when u find the s10 stuff is press out the needle baerings on the gears so they slip nice and easy on the jeep case shaft !!! super easy and like i said beeefy
