trans cooler lines.
my factory cooler lines are starting to leak where the crimp to the flex hose is...i have an aftermarket cooler in my basement i wanna use but got a question.
has anyone ever cut the existing cooler lines at the metal tube, and used a flare or compression fitting to connect to the new flex line to an auxiliary cooler?
i would try to replace the whole line but these damn quick connects aint budging.
just looking to see if anyone has done this before and what size fittings i should get.

One of mine was cut by the previous owner (no aux cooler was installed so I assume the rubber hose or fitting was leaking) it was "repaired" with rubber hose double clamped, no leaks and it must have been many years old, as the hose was dried out and cracking. I installed a AUX trans cooler (B&M 70264) and also double clamped the hose (new hose of course) to the metal line and still no leaks.

I clamped hose on mine also. Go to napa and get the sleeved ones made for vinyl/silicone hose. Usually have them behind the counter if you ask. I also put a single flare on the end of the steel line to make it seal better and have less chance of slippage.

I've read that it is a low pressure system. If you are paranoid, you could double flare the end of the hard line and slid the rubber hose over it and hose clamp it, although I wouldn't think this is needed.

thanks guys, i thought it was a low pressure system but wasnt sure if just double clamping it would seal it good.
once im done with this i will be using the abandoned in-rad cooler as a power steering cooler on the return line. should help nicely when i eventually run 35s, 1-ton steering and a durango box.

I'd still use the radiator cooler. The small aftermarket coolers are nice as an addition to the radiator but alone you'll overheat the trans.
