My reasoning to mount the largest plate&fin cooler to fit in front of the mechanical fan was slow speed/high RPM driving in soft sand.
Deep sand driving is especially tough.
Yea I could see that. But I have a taurus fan and it hangs down low enough to cover the trans cooler to so im good there

I have read so many posts on which way the tranny fluid flows, and everyones flow direction seems to vary. Best way to tell is to drive long enough to get the temperature up to normal operating temp. Then measure the temp of each line if you have a way to do so.

On mine it goes from the tranny to the lower fitting on the radiator, then back out the top fitting back to the tranny. Mine is a '97 AW4. I also put it after the stock cooler, though there is much controversy about which way is best. Mine is located dead center in front of the condenser with a 1/2" gap inbetween.

This man is correct. It's the one closest to the pump.

^This, it does vary which fitting on the rad is feed and return but the lines on the trans themselves are always the same with the feed from the front fitting and the return to the rear, if you follow the lines from the trans you will be sure to get the correct one (though from what I've heard it doesn't really matter and the cooler is generally just as efficient regardless of which line it is placed in despite what the directions say).
