Default Track bar issues!

Hey guys, so I recently got a new cherokee, a 01 XJ, with a 4.5 rough country lift and 33 inch BFG's. Went for an inspection today, failed immediately. One of the guys main concerns was my track bar and how loose it was. as you jerked the steering wheel around, the whole tack bar wobbled around. I looked up some track bars and all of them have bushing and then i came to form the opinion that the previous owner just rigged it together in any way possible, or the tack bar is extremely worn down. In other words, the track bar has too much play to pass inspection. Here are some pictures.

So my question is, what should I do in this case? Replace the track bar with an adjustable one? If so, what brand would be most reliable; rough country?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Replace that ASAP. Rough country is good. They have put better tie rod ends on than previous ones. They also make one with a heim like yours kind of has. Pretty much anything is going to be a huge improvement

First I have to say spend a little more and get an IRO TB. Better quality and worth the price. Second WTF. Its crazy to read that someone really inspects your vehicle that much. The only state I have lived in with vehicle inspection was Oklahoma and as long as your brakes stopped you before you hit the building you passed.

East coast inspections, from my experience, are far stricter than most of the country. And I second the Iron Rock Offroad double shear track bar. You won't have any more problems after you install that.

Chances are its going I be a pain to cut that weld back off without destroying the mount itself. You could possible look into IRO double shear kit that replaces that mount as well

Ironman 4x4 look him on Facebook or google. Andy Carter is his actual name. He builds them along with a lot of other things and everything he sells is beefy and he stands by his work

I just put an adjustable Rubicon Express track bar in the front of my ZJ. It has the heim joint that attaches to your stock frame mount.

It's rock solid, I love it.

It might cost a few hundred bucks, but you could consider getting a new bracket and track bar from RE, Clayton, or one of the other top brands.

The high end, double sheer set-ups are just soooo much better than stock stuff.

Wow! That thing is trashed. A big F U to the previous owner!

Don't screw around with Rough Country or other crap that uses a stupid tie rod end on the frame side. Double shear just makes sense, especially at anything about 4".

I've researched this topic heavily and decided to go with the Iron Rock Offroad double shear. Best bang for the buck as far as I can tell.

I had the same problem with my TB. I replaced it with a RE TB and mount; nice and firm.

Nobody else here sees it huh?

He bought the kit used... that track bar is fine... He didn't get the drop bracket with the kit so he made it work like he thought it should... double sheer track bars come with a new drop bracket... thats what makes it double sheer... that's a double sheer track bar on a oem bracket... imagine the heim vertical...

$50 bolt on fix...

Good eyes. I looked at the pics and just saw a rusty welded mess but never looked at it close. Looking at it closer now even if that a grade 8 bolt I'm surprised it never snapped.

That setup is as bad as installing a shackle that looks like this.
