TOTM FOR JUNE 2012 COOLING SYSTEM UPGRADES!
Let's see how you guys are keeping those jeeps cool as summer comes into full swing? Anything from a simple coolant flush, & e fans, to performance radiator swaps/relocation!
TOTM (Topic Of The Month) is a group effort posting helpful info. Post what pics you have on the topic, as well as helpful info for people looking into these topics for their first time. The Idea is to have a less hardcore verison of pirates TOTM here on CherokeeForum.
Remember to update any of our older TOTM threads as you build, & help me, help you, by throwing out some suggestions for future topics here. http:// http:// https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/to...umpers-118393/ www.cherokeeforum.com/f19/ tot...gestion-93121/
Thanks to Gatchamo5710 for his suggestion of cooling system upgrades!

i dont have any pics on it yet but i have a zj fan clutch and a csf 3 core on the way. fits fine. definitely want to take the top of the radiator mount off so it can fit. i dont know how it will fit with the 3 core, but i will update.
i decided to go with the fan clutch upgrade because i dont want to have to worry about turning off any additional electric fans when i do water crossings.
it also kept the jeep right at 210, even after it chewed the radiator up and coolant was gushing out (transmission mount was bad, clutch would hit the rad on takeoff) and no fan shroud.
good upgrade in my opinion, $43.

converting from the closed system to the more common open system was the best thing i could've done!
all it took was a CSF 2 row all metal rad (for 91-01 XJs) i used one from a 94 as a reference but i believe they are all similar enough.
new heater core hoses and heater control valve
over flow tank
in this mod i also lost the temp switch for the fan. which brings me to the second mod.
i ran the temp switch wires into the cab to a switch, so i have manual control over the fan, and nothing else. i later mounted up a later style thermostat housing with temp switch in it but haven't hooked it up yet. so the possibility is there to have both manual and automatic control.
thats it as far as actual mods. obviously having decent hoses and regular flushes will contribute to cooling as well.
also, with this setup i run fairly cool, takes a long time in traffic to get up to 210. cruising it normally runs cooler than that. i'd estimate around 180. i have a 195 t stat btw. everything else is stock, but i also put in a new fan clutch when i did these mods.

Lately my mods include hotwiring the electric fan and turning on the heater since I've gotten a random overheating dilemma.

I guess I will throw my set up in. 96 XJ 4.0 auto. Replaced the radiator with an aluminum 3 row from radiator barn. Replaced t'stat and water pump with mopar parts. Flushed system and I am using Toyotas long life coolant. Just added a tranny cooler from another vehicle. Found it in the scrap bi in the shop. No leaks. Almost never goes above 210. Has to be 100+ degrees out side before it creeps just a little over 210. Then the electric fan kicks on and drops it back below 210. Super happy with the setup.
