Default Top end question/s

Ok. So I've decided to not do a motor swap in my 98 but instead have decided to milk every horse out of my 4.0 without a stroker. The reason being that the rules my division has is that the motor must be stock displacement for the model year of the engine. Now. I've thought of ordering a cam and have a buddy that is going to help me port and polish the head/TB in his machine shop. How big is to big in all those aspects? Also. Me and my teammate floated around something we heard in that a 1jz or 2jz intake would fit the 4.0 easily. Is this possible and, if so, how big of a gain would it be. Just curious is all. Thanks for any help. Also if there are any other mods you think I should do, that would be helpful.

Cam, lifters, springs, valves, etc:

I would only align the ports. Polish/enlargement on a motor that will only see 5k anyway is a waste of time.

True. Never thought of it that way. To bad we can't twist these things 7k+.
I'm guessing I should probably jump to a larger injector size as well?

Weakest link in the chain will be fuel, no mods for the PCM.

If your going to race this I guess from what you posted about cid there is still a lot that can be done but the cost will be higher than a stroker ever would. When I started Drag Racing a long time ago I raced a stock class also A/SA so know a little about it as I raced that class for 3 yrs. Then got tired of all the factory sponsored cars kicking my azz in the big races where the money was.

One of the first things would be to have the block race prepped (by someone who does race engines and new rods and crank lightweight ones then the assembly balanced. This will help quite a bit, you may be able to fudge some unless they tear down the winner or pump you on stroke or bore on that old of a block the bore of 30 over would be normal on most and 60 not unheard of.
.

Don't let anyone try to port your head unless they have a flow bench and know what there are doing or they could really screw it up. Your best bet would be to consult with someone who builds race engines for that class and see what works best. As with any engine there tip and tricks for each engine most of mine for the last 25 yrs. has been with SBC's (Dart blocks) every one is different.

Ya. Its street legal class. No trailers allowed. I want in the future to swap to megasquirt. It will be for SCT events and sand drags(300ft).
