Default Tire size to rim size question

Would a 12.5" wide tire fit on a 7" wide tire as a spare? Thanks

Brandon

I think that's a bit to much for a 7" wheel. Usually a 12.5" tire can go on a 8" wheel minimum, and that's not even recommended, but a lot of people do it.

Don't understand what you are asking, did you mean will a 12.5 inch wide tire fit on a 7 inch wide RIM. The answer to that question is yes it will fit on the rim, but if the rim has the stock back spacing of 5.25 inches it will rub bad, to bad in fact to be used as a spare.

I'm pretty sure the stock backspacing is 4.5 inches, at least it is on 97+

It will mount fine. Got a buddy running 4 on his truck on the stock ranger rims and there are tons of guys who do it.

I own a tire shop. It will mount but the problem will be how bad the tire in pinched. you will get to things from this. 1) the tire will grow in overall hight and 2) the tire will not wear right do to not all the tread being put to the gound. i would not mount a 12.5 inch wide tire on anything small then a 10 wide rim

Yes I'm sorry I ment rim duh sorry

I wouldn't care very much about the tire not wearing right. I am getting 4 used 10" wide rims and one 33x12.5" tire with about idk 30% tread. I would like to use that one worn out tire as a full sized spare on the rim that I'm using now with my spare bold 31x10.5" tire. The rim is a stock steel rim that's 15x7". If I should not do this because of a back spacing issue then I won't but if y'all think it would be a bad idea because of uneven wear then I'll still go ahead with it. Thanks for ya'lls opions

Stock back spacing on the aluminum Cherokee rims is 5.25 for a 1993, it may, or may not be the same on his 1989.

Alright I'll get rid of the 7" wide rim. And I'm not running a locker yet but I will be very soon. I'm either going to go with a e locker or a detroifor te rear and a powertrex no slip up front. Why do you ask?
