Default Time for a new engine, but which one?! 😫

I have a 2001 XJ limited that I bought almost two years ago with the infamous 0331 head. Replacing the head gasket a year ago did nothing for my mysterious loss of coolant, aka seeping into the engine for a slow, painful death. A new water pump did however slow the loss for a solid month or two. And now, I'm sad to say that it's time to replace the engine and as we all know, they don't make em like they used to. I've weighed all options at this point and I don't think a salvaged engine is the way to go because honestly, she could decide to s*** the bed anyways. I'm a relatively broke college student so I'd like to get this right the first time around.

So my question is, what remanufactured engine is best? There are so many inconsistent reviews and opinions on what's out there and unfortunately, the lack of good workmanship these days is a little too rampant for my comfort. This car is the love of my life, so I really only want the best of the best that's going to do its job and last. Please help!!
