Default tie rod upgrade

Any info or opinion on Iron Rock over knuckle tie rod system or other brands? (under or over knuckle) I drive on & off road. I don't have drill bit or reamer to modify knuckles & on a tight budget. Any help appreciated.

What size tires are you running?
Id be willing to bet a v8 ZJ tie rod will work just fine for you.

Yup a Tie rod set from a mid 90's GC V8 10x as strong as stock and a direct bolt in to boot. I run them and zero issues off road with mine it isn't a DD and very little on road driven.

Best of all the best parts from AutoZone are under $100 for both tie rods (long and short + sleeve) think they are Moog.

x3 on the ZJ tie rod setup. That's what I'm running on mine and have no issues to date.

The parts can be had for under $50 bucks at advance with a coupon. No need for moog brand...the cheap stuff has a lifetime warranty

I'm on 33x10.50's. I thought about getting rid of the factory drag link, so the rod ends are cheaper & easier to replace. The cost on drag link & rod ends is about $130 plus what a ZJ tie rod cost. I wondered if little more $ would be worth aftermarket setup. I need to fix soon before I get snowed in (daily driver is 2wd)

Teh drag link should be sufficient. I have personally wheeled a zj tie rod and a stock drag link on 35s...and so have plenty of other folks.

X4 (or 5) on the V8 ZJ (Grand Cherokee) steering upgrade!

I did the V8 ZJ steering upgrade to my 91 XJ about three years ago and have been very happy with it. As stated it's a simple bolt on upgrade.

I wanted to get out if it as cheap as possible so I pieced the parts together for two different sources. I got some of the parts from Pep Boys and the others from NAPA. I spent about $130.00 for all of the tie rod ends, adjuster, and the drag link pieces.

If you order the parts do it online at advance auto
Get driveworks brand parts. Its what ive ran and have had 0 issues. With a coupon it can all be had for right at 50 bucks.

Tie rod itself iwth a fixed end, adjuster sleeve, and the 2nd tie rod end.

I went ahead and replaced EVERY tie rod end when I did the ZJ swap since mine were all original and I believe I was around $150 for everything (drag link included). I've always replaced all of them instead of just one at a time, that's the only way to do it in my book.

I considered Rusty's conversion for $298 shipped. I think ZJ swap will be about $200 with everything. My drag link is what has to be replaced before I can get it on the road, but I want to replace all the ends. I guess I' let time & money make my decision. Thanks for the input.

$150 sounds better. I was guessing prices.

I got my ZJ tie rod for under $100 off amazon. Only thing I'm thinking about doing after that is flipping it to over the knuckle.

this is what i did w/ my zj rod , got the goferit weld in bushing & flipped the drivers side over the knuckle. it levels the tie rod & gives way more clearance, its easy to do also , bushing is like $ 20. i had a local 4wd shop do it ,due to the tack weld part. took them a 1/2 hr.
