Default Tie rod ends

Hay guys. Hope someone can help. I have a 5.5 rubicon extreme duty lift under my 96 xj. I need a new tie rod end and the guy at the alignment shop says the stock one in the computer looks to long but I called rubicon and they say they use the stock ends on their aftermarket tie rods. I'm not sure if it is a stock tie rod or not but I would think the stock one would work ether way. I wasn't able to search the forum for this question because all I have is my iPhone app and it won't let me use the search option. does anyone know about this.

If Rubicon told you to use the stock one then i would try that first.. Alignment places are not very helpful when it comes to lifts (unless they specialize in Lifts and alignments) So take the advise from the manufacturer of your lift. Worst case senario you will end up returning the ones that don't work and finding the correct ones. Good luck.

I have looked everywhere and I can't find one with the threads that go all the way to the ball. I called rubicon and they said their aftermarket kit is just a wrangler assembly. And that is not what I have. I haven't figured out how to post pics from my iPhone yet. As soon as I do I will. Thanx for the reply thoe

I called rubicon because everything els under it is rubicon so I wanted to see if they made a aftermarket tie rod assembly and it turns out they sell a 97 wrangler assembly as their aftermarket assembly. But that is still not what I have. Took it to a different shop and they said it looks like home made fab to them so I had to order a hole new stock assembly. The guy at the shop said mine was bent anyway and both ends are bad so I figured it it wouldn't hurt to swap the hole thing out for new. Thanx for all the help anyway guys.

I would order the V8 ZJ steering parts if I were ordering brand new stock parts. Direct fit and stronger parts.

Especially if I had a lifted truck. But thats just me.

Thanx a lot I will check into that. I ordered the parts today but it was just from a local parts store so it wouldn't be any problem to change it. He priced everything to me for like 170 so I didn't think that was to bad but I will definitely check to see what the difference would be. Thanx again.

TJ/MJ/ZJ/XJ tie rods are universal. so yes you could have a tie rod off a Wrangler on your XJ

Ah, yeah, good point. But if buying new...I still suggest getting the ZJ stuff.
