Default Thoughts on a cold air intake setup?

I'm thinking of putting a cold air intake setup on my '94 4.0. . I have been told it might end up making me burn more gas and should second guess it. I don't know too much on this stuff so I could use some tips.

Pros / cons?

A TRUE CAI will NOT make you burn more gas. Just the opposite really, it will help you get better mileage by forcing more cold air into the engine. Better mileage, better HP, cleaner running engine, etc. HOWEVER, Im talking about a TRUE CAI, not some cone filter in place of the factory air box. Lots of guys put on cone filters and call them CAIs when in fact they are not.

waste of money and time unless it's a cowl intake/through the firewall to go water proof.

if you really want a CAI, then atleast make one thats somewhat functional and do a cowl snorkel setup. it will pull colder air than the engine bay, and help keep you from hydrolocking.

a true cai will pull air from outside the engine compartment. a cowl intake or a snorkel. others imo are not much better than a stock box.

also when they "dyno test" for HP don't they usually give the results at high RPM where the difference is actually noticeable? i.e. not every day cruising speeds so you'll never feel a real HP gain from it

I read that K&N advertised +8HP, but only at 3000RPM. are there any actual benefits of cold air intakes for a jeep?

The stock air box isnt water proof either though, I mean yea why spend money on something that isnt exactly noticeable unless its water proof in this case

i have the k&n CAI and its a good improvement over stock. the air has a less obstructive path to take. but i also don't do much offloading. oola sees 90% highway and 10% city. but I've read that for off road use they're terrible because it has wider pores and alows more crap to get past the filter

Has anyone opened the stock airbox up to see if it improves flow and MPGs?
