Default Thoughts on Cardone Power Steering Pump?

Hey everyone,

I'm overhauling my XJ steering. I have a reman durango box, cavfab crossover steering, brand new knuckles all ready to go in, and I want to swap in the V8 WJ pump.

Does anyone have any experience with A1 Cardone pumps? This one is new.

The price seems really reasonable.

Don't do it!
I went through two A1 Cardone pumps before I finally demanded my money back from NAPA.
Also do not use the AGR pump either.
I ended up buying a new pump from Vatozone, and it so far has been fine (course now I just jinxed myself).

Who did you end up going with instead? I'm hoping not to spend more than $200

I did the Durango box and its the worst think I could have ever done to my jeep. The turning radius is considerably smaller I ended up buying a rebuild kit for my stock box and steering pump, I'll keep the durango box as an spare or maybe use it for hidro assist in the furute.

Btw the Durango box i bought is a cardone, and it started leaking after a few days, very bad quality.

cardone is short for Car Done. Absolute junk.
I'd grab a non leaking one from a junkyard that the fluid looked good in before I bought their crap.

I ended up finding one from Lares. They seem to have decent reviews.

Firing up an old-ish thread....

I had a Hyundai Tuscon where I got a Cardone pump... NEW, not remanufactured, and it wouldn't stop whining. Power assist was fine as far as I could tell. After spending many hours trying to do this and that to eliminate the air from the system, I bought a junk yard pump off of Ebay and it whined for about 3 seconds before it got quiet. But it whined (although quieter) when I turned the steering back and forth and that went away after I cycled the steering several times and then let it sit for a half hour.

Now I have, on my desk, in a box with a return label, a NEW Lares pump for my 1999 XJ. It whines. I ran the thing for two weeks and about 7 commutes to work and back, which are short, but should be perfect for bleeding a power steering pump. It still whines. The fluid won't stop aerating.

I bought a core engine for my stroker build which is sitting on my trailer in the back yard. It came with a rusty power steering pump with a beat up pulley with a remanufactured sticker on it. I installed that, and it is quiet as a mouse and the air isn't even out of the system yet. It has evidence of the shaft seal leaking fluid out. But at it doesn't whine like a 2 year old.

I am pretty sure that in both cases of bad pumps listed above, the pumps were sucking air through the shaft seals. I cannot prove that, but something is creating harmonics in the pump vanes.
