Hey all.
I just finished installing a new set of brown dog rubber motor mounts. My old mounts were shot. I was really excited to do this and feel the improvement, but I must say that my Jeep feels awful now. Sure the throttle response is better, but the vibes at idle are unbearable. It feels like the jeep is shaking loose. Vibes in the steering wheel, seat, entire dash rattling like all hell. I followed the instructions and tightened them appropriately, backed off 1/4, turn etc.
I've seen a few threads where people said they soften up with time. But this is my daily and the vibe is so bad I can't imagine its it's going to get close to stock vibration free even after a break in period. Does anyone have any experience with this? Considering switching back to oem.
I will say that I intended to change my tranny mount today too but the one they sent me didn't fit so I'm still rocking my old tranny mount which seems quite soft. I removed it before doing the engine mounts so its not broken or anything. I did not have these vibrations nearly as bad before. Thoughts/advice?

Any aftermarket mount is going to result in more vibes. I ran Rusty's rubber engine mounts and gave them a few months to soften up, but they never did to a level that was acceptable to me. I'm in the same boat as far as a Daily Driver. I took them out sold them for a 50 percent loss and bought actual OEM mounts from the Jeep Dealer. They weren't cheap but the original ones lasted almost 200k miles before giving up the ghost.
Just don't go absolute bottom of the barrel cheap such as Anchor. I had a set of those on the Jeep for 8000 miles before putting the Rusty's in there and they were already coming apart when I took them out.

I love my rubber Brown Dog mounts. I will say that it vibrates a little but that's more to do with the raised transfer case touching the tunnel. It's funny the set I bought was from a guy that tried them on his XJ and complained of vibrations after a week. He went to some stock replacements and I benefited from his issue.
