I am in process of building my tire carrier. I want to bolt a piece of teflon block approximately 2x3x1/2" black in color to the bumper for the latch end of the arm to rest on and a similar sized piece to rest against the face of the bumper for the latch to draw tight against. Anyone know a source for a small chunk of it for <$20?

you could check McMaster-Carr. they have lots of materials. You might also want to look at Delrin that is available in black Teflon is usually white. Delrin would be cheaper too.

Black UHMW would be the best way to go as its tougher than steel when it comes to taking abuse. if you lived near detroit I could get ya some for free from my work. Should be able to find it online pretty easy

Leaf spring pads are made of Delrin and have buttons/nubs that may aid in mounting. Cost is minimal.
FYI. UHMW-PE = ultra high molecular weight polyethylene.
