tcase or tanny in 96 xj
So I was driving the other day when I started my way home when I started up the mountain( I live in Granby co, was leaving Denver co) and started up the hills went I started pushing atf from the tcase overflow line. So I stopped and looked and checked fluid and everything seemed okay so I tried starting it up and work just crank. After about an hour started and drove fine !?!??! Any ideas? Have some strange wineing sound coming from the tranny now too... Has done this twice now and the last time the jeep died all of a sudden while driving and in gear but not one code

you overheated your trans. check the fluid level. install a cooler and a temp gauge. i did it to my jeep when it was on 30s, i had my foot on the floor 3rd gear speedo swinging past 90 on a steep uphill when i noticed the smoke. i pulled over, let it cool for 20 mins and then continued driving like a normal person. its been fine since.
but really, check the fluid.
