Take awhile for 2hi to engage when coming out of 4hi
Whenever I take My XJ out of 4hi it takes a little bit for the transfer case to disengage the front driveshaft and fully switch back to 2hi. Is this normal or a problem?

Go through your xfer case shift process. Do you let off the gas when you shift out of 4HI? My NP231 will stay in 4HI for a while if i keep my foot on the skinny pedal after shifting into 2HI.

okay well i come to a complete stop, then put the vehicle in neutral. my foot remains on the brake as I shift the transfer case into 2hi. With my foot still on the brake i put it back into drive then press the gas

What manual? Mine doesn't say anything about max speed for 4H... Also cruiser54 did at 80, not 70
Shifting back into 2H can be a pain in the *** if you've used 4H on a surface that doesn't allow for much slip. Tension builds up on the driveline and the mode hub won't move that easily. Driving in reverse or on gravel or ice or something can help release it.

I dunno I haven't looked in the manual my 99 came with.
Someone a while back said it was in the drivers manual that it could be shifted up to 55mph. Nothing about a limitation of speed while IN 4hi.
