Default T Case flip

A question for you guys, I'm going to Swap out the D30/8.25 in My 96 XJ and the front diff going in will have the pumpkin on the other side, Can I flip the Tcase to the other side ?? Looking at the way it has the 6 radial mount bolts would suggest I can. I know I will have to Mod the floor and figure some arrangment for the shift linkage, is there something obvious I'm missing ???
Cheers Leon (NZ)

Not sure bout this unless you can manage to reverse the oil pick up tube in the case and move the breather to the other side.
Linkage on the outside will have to be modded to work.

Other than that I think it can be done unless somebody else here know more than this.
I'm just throwing out ideas since I've never done this with a np231

Dan is on with the fluid pickup.. that would be an issue.

Look into a Dana 300 swap, would do what you want with leaving linkage on drivers side of case. You'll need to do some floor clearancing.. but thats probably minor comparing the rest of the fab work.

What front axle will you be swapping in?

Thats My other option, is to do a pumpkin swap. The Axle going in at this point is either a Hilux or Nissan Patrol. The other thing I have is a Nissan Patrol Tcase, It has several good points 1) gear driven 2) PTO winch drive, the down side is only 2:1 reduction against the 2.72:1 of the Jeep NP 242. I will do some more research on the 242 Tcase. thanks guys

Hey guys, In case you are thinking "WTF" is he wanting to swap to Jappa diffs for, A quote from Wikipedia.
(The underbody hardware (diffs, CVs etc.) were significantly strengthened and are considered to be the strongest componenents fitted to any production 4WD.) This is for the Nissan Patrol.
The other thing you need to know is this is taking place in NEW ZEALAND where US diffs and things like Atlas Tcases are like Rocking Horse POO and if you could get them the price is so high it has snow on it. So we are limited to what we can use.
The reason for wanting to swap diffs in the first case is we only have one other Jeep in our group and He has continual breakage's with his TJ, When it had the 30 in front it broke Ujoints, ears off the shafts, Stripped Ring gears. He changed to a D$$44 and sti8ll breaks Ujoints. Hes running lockers and 35" Claws but he can even break the 44 with the locker out. So you can see my concerns. And allso The Hilux comes with 4.88 gears and the Nissan with 4.1 so I get to regear at no extra cost, I run 36" TSL SX swappers
