Default T-case drop

I read on this thread https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/bud...herokee-58797/ that using 5 speed crossmember on a jeep with an auto trans will give .75 inches of t-case drop without losing ground clearance. can anyone confirm this?

It should yes. My lift instructions told me to mount my Xmember upside down to give 1" of drop compared to the auto trans. The mounting holes may not line up though. TBH I've never taken a look under an unmodified automatic. Also, It's not really worth it unless you have one sitting there ready to put on. A transfer case drop kit is like 25-35 bucks...

I would offer my Xmember up but I literally just took it to the scrap yard...

Sell the tcase drop and hit up the salvage yard. Worst case scenario is they are the same and you have an extra. Why don't you wanna do an sye?

Well I can only afford a Hack n tap, but I'm kinda scared of cutting up my t-case output shaft. I think that i would also need a custom driveshaft because I only have 3" lift, so a stock xj front would be too long if I'm correct

I'm on 4.5 inches of lift and a grand Cherokee front was too short. It's actually 1.25 inches longer than the longest XJ front shaft but I'm running a full sye and a h&t is longer... buy the jig for drilling and just go for it.

Oh, and if you try to go with the full SYE, don't try and take the output shaft out. Just take the whole back half of the case off... you'll see what I'm talking about haha.

my original post by the way was to warn and encourage you. Go ahead and do what needs to be done, but remember every XJ is different even if they are "exactly the same." Also, you won't know exactly what size driveshaft you need until after you do an SYE.

You can probably get a used 231 with an sye installed for about the price of a sye.

Yes, I confirm this. I am running the manual crossmember with a aw4 and it does give right at .75 of drop. The auto crossmember is flat where the tranny mount bolts up. The manual has a drop where the tranny bolts up. Very easy to see when you get them out of the vehicle.
