I'd like to add one thing though and that is, never discount someone because of their age. There's plenty of us on CL that are younger than you but have quite extensive knowledge of the mechanical systems specific to these vehicles. They have their own little quirks and "special needs". You mentioned that you follow Salad's posts.... he's around the same ripe old age of 35 that I am. Knowledge, experience, and maturity have little to do with age.

Welcome to CF
Agreed.

There's a wonderful story that precedes this video done in my garage with Brendan aka buttstripe here on CF.. He should write it as he's younger.....and you can see how old I am.

Here's a link to Brendan's videos. He's a young whipper snapper!!

This was an "ok" oil thread.

I think CR could of held out a bit longer and bickered a little better.

Pressure in the engine could have easily turned into a 15 page rant about bad rings. That'll make oil blow out of the "path of least resistance" every time.

Overall it was a good read throughout the better part of the week, entertaining, and I'll give it a 6 on a scale of 1-10.

4 page oil thread, three pages aren't even about the topic.

Classic
I took an engine apart one time, that had always used Valvoline. It formed thick, hard, almost like plastic deposits ! I switched to Pennzoil. Due to the nature of this thread, I wasn't sure if you were just yankin my chain? I read Salads oil post. I had already bought the GTX Castrol High Mileage synthetic blend oil 10w-40. Now I'm thinking of going with the Rotella T6. My ol man drove trucks, we had 8 at one time. I've poured a bunch of Delo and Rotella !!! One of my first jobs was changing the oil in em all. I used to carry the oil in the house so it would warm up and pour better in cold weather !!! On Sunday afternoon , I had to go to the truck lot, put charcoal in metal trash can lids under the engines to warm up the trucks and get them started !!!

Welcome to CF
I will have to take exception to this one sentence, specifically one word.
Experience. It comes with age, the older you get the more experience you acquire.
I say this as I'm in the retirement bracket myself, but have no problems learning from the youngsters who display knowledge and maturity. But your point is correct.

I did smile through the first 4 pages though.

So my Rotella oil is fine?

well i guess it depends then right? If your fine learning from youngsters that are knowledable and mature, then their experience with something your learning from them doesnt have to do with their age now does it?....plus there are TONS of older folk that sure say they have experienced things and know this and that but i'l be damned if it helps them with the problem they are trying to solve haha (many of those that come into the shop)

If you go into your user control panel and scroll down a little ways down the left hand side, you can put that link in your signature so people can refer to it whenever they want.
