Default SYE questions

Ive got a 1994 XJ that i am wanting to put a slip yoke eliminator on. Its a 4.0 automatic with a NP231 transfer case and a chrysler 8.25 rear axle. My lift is a rustys offroad 3 inch all new spring lift with 1 inch coil boosters up front and 3 inch lift blocks in the rear and im running 31 inch tires. Anyways my question is that i have seen a few people on here discussing using a a cv style double cardigan front driveshaft out of a cherokee for their rear driveshaft after the SYE install and im just wondering if anyone knows if this would be possible with my current lift? Will i have to get the shaft lengthend or should it work at stock length? I could buy the custom tom woods driveshaft but i would like to keep the cost down and use a front d-shaft for my rear if at all possible. Any help or advice anyone can give would be greatly appreciated!

You should be fine with a stock front shaft. A custom shaft isn't really necessary at 3".

On a side note, ditch the blocks asap. Get some shakles from a parts store for $35 and relocation brackets from a vendor here! Your springs will last longer, and your ride will be better.

Are you currently running your lift with no SYE? from what ive heard most pre 96 xj's cant go up to 4.5" of lift with no vibes/ problems... and have you thought about making a t-case drop or buying one? I am running a 4.5" lift with just a 1" t-case drop that I made on my 2000 xj with a 5-speed transmission and am experiencing minimum vibration. hope this helps some

you should be able to find a front shaft that fits. just install and SYE and pull you front shaft out and test fit it in the rear. if it fits, bolt it up and drive to the junk yard and get another shaft for your front. if it doesnt fit, measure then try to find one at the junk yard. they come in a couple different lengths. worst case DO NOT BUY A CUSTOM SHAFT. take a junk yard shaft to your local driveline shop and have them retube it to the correct length for about $100

The only issue i am experiencing with my driveshafts is my front driveshaft seems to be extended almost to far.... I can easily wiggle the yolk wich scares me a little.

Any reccomendations on what SYE kit to get? Theres some on ebay for around 160 or i could go for the advance adaptors kit for around 190 or so just wonderin if u had any personal experience with any kit in particular. And yeah i wanna get rid of the blocks and do a bastard pack just havent gotten around to it yet. I installed the blocks due to the cheap rustys springs sagging and causing me loose much of my lift lol. I see alot of people on here talking about shackle relocation brackets what is the advantage to these? Ive never actually seen them done in person.

You'd want longer shakles and relocation brackets. The brackets give you adjustable mounting spots on the body side for ideal shakle angle. The longer shakle the more lift you'll get to a certain point. So you coud really get 3" of lift on stock leafs if done right.

And go with the advance Adaptor kit.

Most syes are made thru same company e bay ones are rugged ridge then just measure and grab a front shaft from a grand cherokee save about 250.00 good to go .

Thanks for the reply dude and ya im running no SYE just a stock shaft with a 1.5 inch tcase drop and it gets pretty bad vibes over 25-30 mph but ive dealt with it for almost a year and a half now. Ive thrown 2 shafts in the woods and a couple weeks back it slung the shaft off going 70 mph down the highway that was kinda scary lol. So now tax money came in and im wantin to uprgade it for good and quit playin around with these slip yokes.

I will post pics of it when its done if you guys wanna see how it turned out.
